Technically the first anime I got into was Pokemon when I was 10/11...but I don't generally count that anymore... I truly got into anime after watching Inu-yasha... after watching all 167 episodes I was hooked!

Okay, here goes--

[And if you've ever read my AC Profile, you already have an idea of what's coming...]

Way back in the 1960's, when I was around 4 [and the dinosaurs roamed  ], I started watching anime even before the Japanese started calling it that, when Astro Boy first hit the broadcast airwaves on independent channels trying to entertain kids coming home from school, and EVERYTHING was in Black & White! Soon following, I was hooked on the earliest versions of Gigantor, Prince Planet and Marine Boy [which was actually in COLOR, tho' I didn't own a color TV until I was an adult  ], but by the time I was in 6th grade, those shows were no longer on, and I forgot all about them, until--

Sometime in the mid-1980's, I was at a General Science Fiction & Fantasy Convention [went to alotta' those during that time], and just for the heck of it, watched a showing of the original "Ghost in the Shell"--

I wasn't yet hooked, but I was intrigued.....

I saw bits and pieces at other cons--Loved DragonHalf, which taught me not only the word, "anime", but that this genre could have a sense of humor, too!--but it wasn't until Toonami came along that I really got serious--

With DragonBallZ!

So, when I saw a commercial for Trigun on [adult swim], I thought--"What the hey? I'll be up that late on a Saturday night, anyway...."

And it was that first episode of Trigun which really got me PERMANENTLY HOOKED!!!

Haven't seen much anime I have actively disliked since then [tho' Evangelion and Blue Gender have come Pretty Dang Close  ], and haven't looked back since..............

In fact, until I discovered Netflix, I probably woulda' been bored right outta' my skull during those "dry times" on TV, when first broadcast, and then eventually cable, began to get.....Old

I really liked Nightwalker, even if it's an "older" anime--Just wished it had lasted longer than 12 episodes, tho'.....

TessL1981 wrote:KeKe and Steve you guys are soooo right. I almost can't stand to watching AdultSwim (Cartoon Network) anymore. When I first discovered it, I believe back in 2002-ish when it was all anime and InuYasha was huge. Now they've replaced most anime shows to ghetto ridiculous shows like Robot Chicken (though there are some hilarious scenes), Tom Goes to the Mayor, etc. type of shows. Before it used to be a lot of anime shows now your lucky if you get 2 anime shows...lol!!!

I agree that CartoonNetwork--and especially [adult swim]--just ain't what they used to be.....

Which is why I don't pay for cable anymore

Then in 2000, sometime around there I discovered Inuyasha and loved anime ever since. I'm going to admit, I'm 27. LOL!!!

And since when is 27 old, Young' Un!?

[Guess it's all relative, like one's taste in anime]

I qualify anime as strictly animation made in Japan [or Korea], for their original home audiences--

Which may or may not leave out some of that stuff like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, since I'm not certain just where they originated, and they seem rather aimed at American audiences, all English dubbing aside.......

[Of course, some anime, such as Yu-Gi-OH! get so cut up and mangled in this country for their "kiddie" audiences, one almost wouldn't recognize them as anime, afterwards]
