old school vs new school

Postby LiquidStorm » November 11th, 2009, 4:22 pm

in your opinion do you like older anime or newer ones? As in older im talking about anime from the late 90's and new school would be from the last 7 years.

Off the top of my head I think Yu Yu Hakusho and Saiyuki are the only anime from the nineties that I like. At least I think Black Cat, Black Blood Brothers, and Hellsing are recent anime.

Yu Yu Hakusho, the better part of DBZ, Tenchi series, GoldenBoy, and all the good Gundams are the reasons Anime is so well loved today, they made Anime into a strong foundation, for bleach naruto black cat and new animes dont screw it up...

Eh I like both but right now I lean more towards old school. At least imo old school has better stories while new school has the better art style.

well, i think that the old schoolers laid the foundation. like YYH,DBZ, and the good gundams. also, going farther back than THAT. if it could be said that there was 1 single turning point for manga, anime and the whole thing it would be easy: Akira.

90's anime and onward wouldn't be what it is w/o that single movie/manga.

because someone else wouldnt have made something similar to that without it. yea... you cant tag one thing as being the basis for everything after it. im sorry but it just doesnt work that way

just cuz Akira got tagged the credit doesnt mean that they are responsible for the whole success, i mean comeon what about Ghost in the Shell which was gaining popularity on MTV before Akira came out? It takes several things to get Anime to what it is today, just not one thing....

Guess what I was trying to say was that i respect previous animes i loved, but as i get used to better animation, it gets harder to rewatch older poor quality animation with the same satisfaction as newer better quality animation. For example, I first watched gundam wing 10 years ago and thought it was the shiznit, best anime out at the time, great animation. I rewatched for the first time in 10 years a couple months ago, and yeah I still enjoyed it, but all the animation defects kept pricking me in the eyes. As for storylines, there have been plenty of bad storylines and good storylines in the past, holds true today, and will probably always remain so. With better animation and voice dubbing, I can get lost in the anime allot easier than an anime with poor animation and crappy voice dubbing, it would need an amazingly epic story that I really dig in order for me to get lost in an old school anime at this point in time.

I like old school because it takes me back to when times were different and the memories that are attached to those times. But in respect to that i like new school for the fact that it has better animation and voice. I just hope that they will never stop making newer and better anime.

I think this question is a wash for me. Old school had better story line than most of the new ones but the new one offer better graphics and more fan service so they both have their good points in completely different ways hence not much comparisons can be made.

Another thing that I like more about new school are fight scenes. In old school the action in fights were slow and drawn out but in new school they are still a little drawn out but the action is faster and cooler looking.

Yes not having to say the name of every attack makes the fight scenes shorter.
