Elysia walked close behind her father as he guided her through the school's corridors. It was all a part of his ploy to get her more into the public eye, and leading the opening ceremonies for the new school year that were to occur the next day was step one.
"Here is the nobles' living quarters Elysia. This lounge is where you will be going after your speech tomorrow after the after-opening get together with the . . .well. . .deserving students of the school. This way you can meet with the best students of this area and your future husband all at the same time, well that is if we don't see him today that is. Then you will. . . " Her father kept going, thinking she was following and listening to his every word. Instead, Elysia was thinking of what she could possibly do to not stand out so much in this place. Everyone else her age had uniforms on, and anytime a student, teacher, whatever looked her way they immediately yelled "PRINCESS" and she was stuck pushing pleasentries for what seemed like ages. Why couldn't she just go to school like a normal kid?
"ELYSIA!" Her Father interrupted.
"Yes, daddy, I'll entertain the nobles. Shake some hands. Dance with the rich boys and all that. Can we go now? I'm tired of this publicity stuff."
"No Elysia. We have one more place to go before we leave, but I think you will find it the most. . . well. . . the most interesting part of this trip anyway."

Her father lead her to the room of one of the nobles, knocked on the door, and without any reply opened it to the room of Kazumata.
She recognized the boy instantly, and with a look of utter disbelief on her face all Elysia could mutter was,
"K. . . Kazu?"

(Careful playing the king. He is of extreme importance and I don't want his character ruined lol )

Kazu had turned around when he heard the knock on the door. He was thrown off for a brief second before realizing and quickly gave a deep bow. "Your majesty, It is an honor. To what do I owe this pleasure?"

The bell rang and Heinz was the first out of the door. Could that wretched class be any longer... he thought, scowling. As he walked to his next class he couldn't help but notice, not murmuring, but people shouting things about the princess being at the school.
There was a bitter jealousy brewing deep inside him. First the Klein boy, then the Princess. He hadn't gotten anywhere near this reaction on his first day. In fact, only the teachers had heard anything of the Von Klaus family, and even they were not aware of the family's large influence on politics in Vasilde. None of this was helped by the fact that he had a short temper, was easily slighted, and had a hard time letting go of grudges.
His next class was Wind magic, which he paid made sure to pay careful attention in.It was the only class for which he took notes, studied, and asked constant questions . One of the most deadly combinations of magics was Wind and Fire. Creating fire storms was child's play. Fire blasts could be made faster, hotter, and could have their range drastically increased.
Heinz found earth magic so easy as to be boring, fire magic came naturally to him, water magic was completely beyond him, but Wind magic infuriated him. The power was always changing intensity, so that one minute he could play around easily, and the next he was having to focus completely on it, blocking everything out. In a fight you couldn't just stop and focus, unless defeat is what you wish for.

"Well, well, well! Kazumata Klein, you sure have grown since we last met haven't you!? How old were you when your mo. . . .well when you and Elysia stopped playing together so much? It seems like that was ages ago now. Ah, anyway, the reason I'm here, well here at your room in particular is to reacquaint you with who else but Princess Elysia herself!" As he finished his sentence, Elysia's father motioned for her to com eforward. Elysia didn't respond, however. It wasn't so much that she didn't want to, but she felt frozen where she stood. Here was the boy she had never forgotten. In a sense the boy she was waiting for, but to meet him here and now. . . .Well, she never really imagined it would ever actually come to fruition.
"ELYSIA!" Her father shouted, bringing her out of her trance and back to reality.
She took a deep breath and stepped forward through the doorway,"Hello Kazu. . .Why. . .er. . .. how. . . shoot. . . how have you been. It sure is, or has, rather, been a long time. . hasn't it?" She blushed a little, which grew to her face becoming completely red for she was more embarassed about blushing so much than her stuttering speech. She tried her best not to make eye contact, and fidgeted in a very distracted way. There was so much she wanted to ask him, and tell him, and hear from him, but it all just came out in her embaraase, and shocked ffacial expressions in a jumbled mess.
Well, I'll leave you two for a few moments! I have somethings I need to chat with the headmaster and others about around this place, and well Elysia you don't really need to or want to tag a long. It will only be mere moments. I'll return! Thanks for keeping her company Klein!" Her father heartily called to the two of them as he rushed out the door.
(there now I don't have to play the king anymore :P)

KAzu was clearly distant and probably not the same as the princess had remembered or hoped for. Kazu bowed slightly, as though he were on ceremony. "Hello, Princess. I..." his hesitation and anyone who could read the faintest of emotions in someones eyes spoke more words than he could ever have spoken. Much was troubling this boy. but he covered it quite well. ".. I have been very well, Thank you. I am deeply sorry that I was unable to come visit like I had in the past. I imagine things have been quite busy for you though and we probably wouldn't have been able to be together.. err, play like we used to. I hope youh ave been doing well."

This standoffish Kazu had become his normal persona, not at all like his playful self of his younger years. Much had changed since then, Much the princess knew nothing of.

Elysia made no effort to make any actual eye contact with Kazu, even though she could tell he was just making small talk with her. Her head was down the entire time, not only to avoid his eyes, but also to hide the obvious shyness, and clumsiness she was embarassed about as it was shown in the redness of her cheeks. However, she was happy to hear his voice again, though it had, of course, changed much since they were last together. She cracked a bit of a smile at the sound of it, and responded, "I haven't been all that busy really. you know. Just the nomal princess stuff. You know, manners and pink frills and all that." She giggled a little, knowing that that was really only a miniscule part, if any real part at all, of her unusual life.
"I did misss having a friend there once in a while though. It made me feel. . .more normal, or something. Plus playing alone was never really any fun to be completely honest." She said with her head still looking anywhere, (mostly the floor) that wasn't Kazu's face.

Kazu smiled, even if it was a bit empty. "so, I guess it's about lunch time. I haven't ate anything since this morning. Are you hungry?""

Kazu walked towards the door not waiting for an answer. "So, My father and sister will be here tomorrow. Emily has wanted to meet you for a long time. I will probably be the one to take her around everywhere since... well... since father will be busy and all."

Kazu opened the door and waited on Elysia

Class ended and Heinz left feeling just as frustrated as always. Damnit! If it were even just a little easier I would be able to control it...What's stopping me?!?!?! He decided to mull it over at lunch. They would be serving the same slop they always did. Most of the noble children had food sent from home periodically that they ate instead of the school's provided food. However, if Heinz's family sent him food, it would be spoiled by the time it got to him, so he was forced to eat the same food as the commoners.
Heinz got his food and sat down at a table. The meal was far above a peasant's fair, he realized that. It just wasn't the same as the rich cuisine in great quantity he was used to at home. He stared down into his plate as he ate, contemplating ways in which he better his understanding of wind magic.

At hearing the name "Emily" Elysia could finally take her eyes off the floor. She first felt a singe of sshock, and a bit of grief, but changed it immediately to come off as happiness. She did wantto meet Kazu's little sister very much, but she wasn't quite sure if she could shake the nearly inexplainable dislike she had for the little girl. She knew that it wasn't really Emily's fault that she and Kazu never saw eachother after his mother's death. but she couldn't shake the bit of resentment that stuck with her regardless.
"I'd love to meet her. I'm sure she's absolutely lovely, especially if she's your sister." Elysia finally made eye contact with Kazu with this remark. she was excited, and really happy that Emily wanted to meet with her. This made any feeling of the previous embarassment disappear.
Elysia followed Kazu to the door, and headed out to lunch with him.
"You'll have to lead the way. The only plac my dad did't take me to on his awkwardly long tour of this place was the place of eating, and I could definitely go for something even remotely food-like right now, even if it is awful school-food."

Excuse the Minor Interruption, but I have ARRIVED!

[Yeah, I know--*Whup-de-doo....*]

Anyway, here is my one and only character in this RPG, arriving Fashionably Late, but quick to Catch Up--

Name: Vic [No acknowledged Last Name]

Age: 25 [He's a Teacher of Zoology (Animals) at the Academy ]

Class: Half-Noble [On his Father's side, whoever his Father is...]

Kingdom: Same Country that Heinz von Klause is originally from, Vasilde (which is alright with Primary Lotus--Thanks!) This could open the door to some conflict/rivalry between the two characters, who will probably hate each other, anyway....]

Power(s): Ice, which is obvious, and Fire, which only shows up when he's REALLY pissed!

Bio: He is the mostly unacknowledged son of a Noble in his homeland, or at least that's what his Mother--the only family he ever knew--told him, before she died when Vic was seven, and he had to start fending for himself in the village he grew up in. Then, when Vic was 21, and had learned to make a living of a sort as a hired swordsman/bodyguard, he unexpectedly received the only "contact" his Father would ever allow him--

Vic received enough money to come to the Academy in Lamor, an official document reluctantly admitting that he was the Bastard Son of an Un-Named Noble, and gift of a Black Stallion, of Horse and Quagga (a type of "formerly" extinct zebra--I'll dig up a picture when I can) mixed breeding, which Vic values more than anything, and named "Excelsior"

Three other points I mention briefly for now:

There are things about his Mother--and where she came from--that he doesn't know, he's fond of Princess Elysia (because she was one of the few people who was friendly to him when he first showed up in Lamor and asked permission to join the Academy), and he hears voices in his head, but he's not crazy, or telepathic (More explanation later)

Oh, and it's not wise to ask him about the eye-patch, either....

Appearance:

Image

P.S. Yes, I know he's a bit like Vicious from Cowboy BeBop, but without the drug problem, the criminal background or the death-wish....

And no Broccoli-Headed Spikes, either!

P.P.S. Yes, that's the same drawing I posted in Fan Art, but with an eye-patch added

P.P.S.S. Since I'm a Newbie here, please have mercy and don't bump me off too quickly--I wanna' have some FUN!

Kazu walked alongside the princess leading the way to the dining hall. He wasn't entirely sure where it was himself but knew it's general location. He of course held every door they came across for Elysia, his training in the proper way to treat royalty was clearly showing.
"Emily has a weak constitution and her health is poor. She can get very sick if she pushes herself too far. I have to constantly remind her to rest and not over do things. Like this morning, she made breakfast and had everything ready for me to come here to the Academy."

Eventually they entered the grand courtyard and Kazumata spotted a bunch of kids going into a large building about 30 yards away. "Ahh, I believe that will be the dining hall then."

Kazumata then noticed two people come into the courtyard from the front gates. They looked older and by their garb Kazu could tell they were graduates.

Name: Nero
Age: 20
Class: Noble
Kingdom:
Power(s): Affinity for Fire and Earth
Bio: Graduated the Academy of light last year, Works for the Academy on the Grand Masters behalf

Name: Link
Age: 20
Class: Noble

Power(s): Affinity for Wind and Water

Nero, who carried a large staff, and Link, who was clad in heavier clothes and a large eloquent two-handed sword, drew a lot of attention. Some of the older girls made their way over to surround them barely holding back their eccentric fangirlism. Nero and Link however weren't going to have much to do with it. They seemed to be on a mission with the ease of their escape from the hordes of girls. They were heading towards the main spire of the castle, where the teachers resided and the grand master's office was.

From behind Kazu and Elysia a voice called out, "Nero! Link! Come back to face me again have you?"

~~

Name: Kurama
Age: 19
Class: Noble
Kingdom:
Power(s):
Bio: A Fourth year student
Appearance:

Nero and Link both looked over to this 4th year student with a smile. Nero spoke first, "Kurama, how are you? Still trying to master all of the elements to take us on?" Nero had not noticed Elysia or Kazumata. Link however, who had just walked over casually as if not in a hurry had changed his demeanor after making eye contact with the princess. Kurama was opening his mouth to respond when Link interrupted. "Sorry Kurama," he looked at Nero and then back to the princess, "We are on official business and we seem to be late." By this time Nero had also noticed Elysia and Kazu standing near by. "Ah yes, we will catch you in a bit Kurama. must be off"

Kazu could have sword he heard Link mutter something about being late and the king and something that demons to Nero as they walked away at an accelerated pace and disappeared into the main spire.

Kurama turned ant watched them with a look of envy on his face. "Damn those bastards, I wish I could be hand chosen by the Grand master for class S missions." After Nero and Link vanished from site Kurama finally noticed Kazumata and Elysia. In a look of bewilderment he cracked a slightly scared smile. "Sorry Princess Elysia, I didn't see you there." He bowed out of respect and then looked to Kazu and back to Elysia, "Well, i ust be off. busy day for those of us who will graduate this year." He took a step backwards before turning and heading off towards the lunch room.

Kazu looked at Elysia, "What do you think that was all about?"

The courtyard had gone silent. Silent that is except for the hushed whispers between girls and the gritting of teeth by the boys, all of which had their eyes on Kazu and Elysia.

Kazu looked around briefly and then led the princess towards the dining hall.

[I'm doing a little catching up, which is why I'm starting in the Morning of this same Day that everyone else seems to be into the Afternoon of--If that make sense]

Vic woke on the first day of the new Academy year with a nasty headache and fleeting memories of bad dreams, feeling as if someone had been yelling obscenities in his ear all night as he slept--

"Damn it all to Hell, I HATE it when this happens!", he snarled inwardly, all too well aware that he was starting things off very BADLY........Again.

This kind of "dream"--if that's indeed what they were, since they sometimes felt more like a loud and annoying conversation he couldn't ignore as he slept--always left him a foul mood, especially when he had to get up extra early on the start of classes day [Vic was more of a Night Person, really], mainly because he couldn't always seem to shut them out, and especially when under stress--

Such as when starting the first day of the school year facing a new crop of students at the Academy of Light.

"Now, now, Dearest--You know getting cranky about what you CAN'T always control only makes things worse.....

Doesn't it?"

Unlike the growling, snarling and quarreling voices he'd heard bits and pieces of earlier in his dreams--bickering on about the Solstice and disappointment and danger and suffering [Yada, yada, yada... ]--THIS Voice in his Head made Vic smile in spite of himself, as "She" [He always thought of the Voice as Female, even tho' he wasn't certain as to why--Perhaps because it sometimes reminded him of his Mother....?] could be assured to say just the what he needed to hear--

Even when he didn't WANT to hear it!

"Yes, I know....." he reluctantly admitted out loud--

Vic never felt strange speaking out loud to the Voice, or his Horse, or even himself--as long as nobody else caught him at it, of course!--since long years of Solitude and Forced Loneliness had taught him the value of keeping his Sanity intact, whatever it took--

But he doubted anyone ELSE would understand it that way, ESPECIALLY here at the famous Academy in the vaunted kingdom of Lamor.

The one place where he'd finally found a certain degree of grudging acceptance, and perhaps ONLY because the Princess Elysia had shamed everyone into it, by seeing only the good in Vic, instead of.........

Well....everything else.

And because she, like his Mother, had been kind to him when all others seemed to either look down their noses at the "Common Bastard", or just generally disdained and/or feared him for his reputation as Someone Not to be Crossed (Vic's prowess with his sword--a katana he'd won in a battle while defending an Eastern Warlord from the man's Rebellious Children--was legendary, especially when it came to dueling), Vic had become very fond of the Princess--

To the point of willingly giving his Life for her, should it ever be required.

Or, just to be the best Teacher of Zoology that he was capable of, and trying his best to live up to Elysia's expectations if he could, now that he finally had a Home and Country and Position of sorts worth caring about!

"And if you don't stop mooning on about her right now, Vic, My Dear, you will be LATE for your first class, and how will THAT look, I wonder!?"

There was bubbling laughter beneath the gentle chide, and suddenly Vic found his headache much subdued as he hurried to get fed, dressed and out the door of his modest rooms to start a new year, and face a new bunch of shining young faces!

[To be continued.....]

While Elysia appreciated Kazu's kindness, she grew more and more irritated with each door he held for her. She knew he was only doig it because she was in fact the princess. If she was anyone else she would be holding the door for herself. She tried not to let her emotions show, but it became incresingly difficult with each step. Then, when Kazu mentioned Emily, and his genuine concern for her, she nearly lost it, but was cut off before she could say anything by the off-handed greeting of Kurama. Next there was a silence that angered Elysia more than anything else that day. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
"YES! I am the princess! royalty! whatever! But I would really appreciate it if you all would just go back to your normal lives, quit gawking, and whispering, and whatever, and LET ME EAT WITHOUT WONDERING WHO'S GOING TO BE WATCHING TO CATCH WHEN I MESS UP, BECAUSE I'M HUMAN! IT HAPPENS! GET OVER IT!" Realizing how loud, and embarassing she was becoming, Elysia paused for a moment. After she took a breath and regained her composure, she added in a much smaller, and more afraid than irritated sounding voice, "Now, please, continue about your lives and ignore my presence. I need to go eat alone.
With her last little trembling words she walked over to the food line, got her food, and ran out the door. There was no way her father was going to be ok with this one.
(In response to your post keke, regardless of his actual intentions, that's how Elysia took it. Go with it.)

(lol, no he would hold it for almost any girl. he has appearances he thinks that much be kept)

Kazu of course wasn't going to leave Elysia's side. It must have been Elysia's outburst that made him recall at this time. The king would probably have murdered him had he done so. Kazumata remembered the king, that day with his father when he was sneaking around the castle alone when Elysia was busy with some princess duty, the king was not nearly as nice as he put on earlier today. That day, the day before Lily was born, was the last memory he had from the castle...

"That son of yours is useless. he has shown no inkling of power, you have failed me Korben. This new child had better be worth all of my time and effort-"

Kazu had heard all of this and was confused, he accidentally slipped and made a noise in the castle's hidden passageways that he and Elysia had discovered earlier that year. This time however, he went deeper in the darkness since Elysia always chickened out whe it grew too dark to see.

Korben and the king both turned immediately to the noise and walked over to towards it, Kazu was unsure what happened but he was falling, rolling, and ended up face down between the two men. The king was furious, snatching up Kazumata from the ground by his heir, "How dare you, what have you heard?" Kazu of course had a look of shock and fear in his eye when his father calmed the king and broke in.

"It is okay, I can tell by the look in his eyes, he knows nothing." Korben had freed Kazu and was walking away with the king in order to have him leave the room so that Korben would take care of it and shouting may only draw other peoples attention.

Once the king was gone, Korben turned back, a fire in his eyes Kazumata had never seen before. after that, Kazu remembered nothing, no matter how hard over the years he would try, he could not remember what happened next other than when he woke up at home there was a rush of people, a babies cry and what sounded like 5 people in his mother's room with magic being cast frantically.

After that, Kazu never returned to the castle and only saw the king one other time, nothing much was different about him than the first time, other than he completely ignored Kazumata.

By this time back in the lunch room, Elysia had got her food with Kazu walking beside her lost in a daze recalling the past. When they exited the room, the light hit Kazu's eyes and brought him back. "Elysia, I" he hesitated, "I'm s..." Heinz the interrupted him, just hearing his voice made Kazu snap back to his formal self.

(Sorry, was waiting on you to post to see what I was going to do with my place holder lol)

Heinz had just finished eating when he heard the princess shout hmph. She can deny it all she wants, but nobody would've yelled that loud, for that long unless they wanted people to pay attention to them... He reconsidered slightly when he saw the rush she was in to get her food and get out. she actually doesn't like everyone gawking...
Maybe she wasn't the diva he had expected her to be. He got up(leaving his plate for someone else to pick up),grabbed his books, and raced out the door after her, intending to introduce himself. He finally caught up to her and was surprised to see Kazumata with her.
"Ah, Kazumata! I was wondering when we'd meet again today," he said. He felt like he was forgetting something, then remembered that he was in the presence of royalty. " Heinz von Klause," he said, with a sweeping bow which he straightened from almost immediately(it was clear he wasn't used to bowing to anyone).
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you princess...I've heard so much."
