Elemental Gelade's ending wasn't that bad although I have to agree with Bassam on Gurren Lagaan. One Piece may be a long series but it is pretty entertaining, especially the recent plot. I can't wait for the manga to come back from its month long hiatus. Tokko was interesting in its own way although for animes of those genres, a happy ending is a mute point, rather against norm.

As for recommendations, definitely check out Code Geass and R2, GTO and Kekkaishi. Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is also good.

For you I'd say:
Trigun-my favorite of all time because of the simplicity and being able to understand all of whats going on. There is no going into detail of something you don't want to hear about just to make it seem realistic, just fun, addicting, realistic anime that you can tell to everyone about. I'd say that's a good balance.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion- very entertaining with it's modern theme. Fun to follow the wits and trying to guess whats going to happen.
Full Metal Alchemist-I can't really tell why i liked this one. The action and suspense is good but nothing special.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood- I like this original story a lot better. A lot of emotion
Eureka 7-This anime really got me interested. I don't know if it's because i'm 13 or if it is just really unique, but i could not stop watching. The slowness and awkwardness of the love story intertwined with the anime hooked me. I really admired the wits and realisticness of this anime. The main characters were all perfect. This is one of my favorites.

Definatly a show that was butchered when put into a how, the first 12 episodes skip over so many years worth of stuff in the manga. Always makes me sad when that happens . . . poor representations of a good artists work

Also im going to throw some comedy into the suggestions with Beelzebub and those who hunt elves (gotta love the senseless humor every now and again to kick back)

Oh and Eureka 7 of course! Wonderful story, characters, romance, and action . . . plus awesome music. i pretty much loved everything about that show
