Eureka 7

Postby Curt » August 30th, 2006, 2:18 pm

Eureka 7 sounds like a typical mecha show. But considering this is a BONES production, you'll never know what to expect. And it holds true here, because after 16(Though it has been released in its entirety) episodes, I am still left in the dark as to what the "real deal" here is about.

That's why Eureka is such an epic.

It started off slowly; giving us time to learn about the world it's based in, the "rules" of the world, the people and the situations they are in. It may be slow, but the story unfolds in a way that's so engaging you don't want to stop watching yet can't really understand why you're so addicted. Perhaps there are just too many mysteries surrounding the Gekko-state. Perhaps the progress feels natural. Perhaps Renton is a realistic character. Perhaps Eureka is so cute. :P

As I said, I don't really get the story at the moment. But I was really astounded at the nice, flowing dialouges it contains. Here's a great noteworthy script, may even rival Fullmetal Alchemist. And just like FMA, this show gives hints and glimpses of something big yet to be unravelled; something totally incomprehensible and something that may change the lives of the characters (and more) forever.

In fact, this series is like an adventure. A gang like Robin Hood trying to solve the mystery of the Trapars, the Coralion and whatsorts; in-between they take up miscellaneous "pirate" jobs. Sounds simple, but I'm telling you this show can be pretty weird and disturbing (ep 10-13?).

Enough babbling nonsense. You just have to watch it yourself to make out the story.

Characters. Omg I just love Renton. I love how down-to-earth and normal he is. He`s your typical teenage boy bogged down by big wishes and social insecurities, yet optimistic enough to make him likable. Eureka is the cold, quiet, mysterious, naive girl that Renton (and most guys out there! even ME!) likes. The whole of Gekko-state is filled with funny, amusing skater-wannabes, although Holland and Talho are very cool people. :) With great dialouges, the people do come alive here. And when you get to episode 10 or 11 where Anemone is introduced, I bet you will definitely be stupefied at how crazy and strangly alluring she is! She rocks!

Animation. Beautiful, fluid animation that is oh-so-pleasing to the eyes. No recycled cels. The surfer-mechs look gorgeous when they fight in the sky. And the most excellent part is how the characters have such great facial expressions and movements! It`s a huge delight to see them looking so real. The music too is excellent. It's atmospheric and fitting. Though I must say the trance tracks can get a bit annoying, but that's personal preference.

Its not your above average Mecha anime, its even Better!

Verdict:(9.0/10) this series should not be missed! Great storyline, great characters, great animation, great music. The perfect package. If you liked previous Bones project like FMA and Rahxephon, all the more you should watch this. Don't let the slow development deter you, you'll find the gem eventually! Totally the sleeper hit of 2005!

I love Eureka vacuums.

You know, I take that back. The series was just ruined for me because a friend said it was better than RahXephon (which was better than Evangelion). It was doomed from the start (As was RahXephon) by my preferences.

eh? Fooly Cooly, or Eureka 7 was ruined for you? If FLCL was your favorite anime, then how could you have enjoyed Rahxephon more so then it..... Also, if you where referring to Eureka 7; well, you never mentioned that you liked Eureka to begin with, so im not really sure what you mean. Unless you where trying to imply that you enjoyed Fooly Cooly more so then Eureka 7, in which case, sortof makes sense, though you never emphasized much on that.

Ok RahXephon was soo much better then Evangelion and I don't even see how this series can be considered on a level with Fooly Cooly or RahXephon or else I am missing a god complex in Eureka...I am not am I?

Depends upon preference... Alot of people think Eureka 7 is better then both Rahxephon, and Fooly Cooly... Because of Fooly Cooly's original plot, and extremely short premise, a good majority of people dont even like Fooly Cooly. Rahxephon had more of a phychological trend to it, in which case made it more preferred to the viewers who like to think. I personally found Eureka 7 better then both, though I also enjoyed Rahxephon, and Fooly Cooly..... Even so, Evangelion is a more popular series then that of Rahxephon. The awards that series had been given where rediculous.(Even though, I prefer Rahexphon over Evangelion.)
Eureka 7 does have a relatively slow start, and not much is revealed until episode 20, but thats what you have to expect from an 50eps series.
