Fansubs OR English

Postby Sango_gal » April 20th, 2007, 11:52 pm

So, theres all this anime here in AC, but its all in english. In the DVD's theres anime's that have subtitles and are still in japanese, and theres also fansubs. I was wondering, if maybe we could have a choice weather to watch the English version, or the JP version? That way, you could have all the episodes of shows (like Detective Conan) and have them available in either JP or English depending on what was available.

Hi,

Perhaps one day that will be made possible however doing that now is not possible. Doing Japanese and English versions would double everything, costs resources and work. This is definitely a plan for the future but we cannot do it at this time.

dubbed anime is $!$!$!$ horrible...Not only are the voice actors almost completely without talent, but they change the words A LOT. I've seen changes in dialogue that were so bad that it changed the meaning and even made characters appear shallow or stupid...

IMO, if you are a fan of anime, you would prefer subs over dubs anyday.

AnimeCrave would appeal to a larger audience if they put up subbed anime...And subbed versions of good anime are available MUCH quicker than anime still waiting to be dubbed. Dubbed Naruto is TWO YEARS behind japan.

There is some good dubbed out there and they have to change a bit of the script tp fit the words.... It would look really stupid if they said the same exact thing and there are some good dubs out like FMP you just have to be open minded and check it out before you say all dubs suck. Also maybe this site is trying to appeal to an audience who prefers dubs or doesn't mind them.

Yea some dubs I actually prefer OVER subs...Last Exile being one of them...As far as anime being behind, thats a general fact about anime in America as a whole and AC only hosts American licensed anime. I won't go into too big of details because I don't think it is my place to nor do I think it should be fully known yet but one of the dreams for AC is to actually make an impact on the anime world in the U.S. If we keep on growing we can gain strength with some companies perhaps and through the fanbase we can force companies to do a better job with the dubbing and be sure that we don't get things like Naruto dubs or DBZ and stuch. So yes AC has catered to dubbed fans for a while but they are changing and remember AC isn't run for free. It takes a lot of money to keep the servers running, buying the anime, and not to mention time that is being put in for practically free because Bassam isn't making a living from AC last I heard. It will take some time but AC will become better, bigger, and more amazing in the future so that it can please most everyone.

Now this is just a Live! Members rant with a little info he has gathered through his time here so don't pay any heed if you don't care but to be so critical of AC when you haven't even been with it for any sort of time that matters is just ignorance.

ignorance is a strong word. I am a big fan of what AC is doing and haven't taken shots at the site or the people running it. I am just a huge advocate of subs. I'm not trying to offend anyone...I have already paid for a membership and will most likely continue to do so.

About better dubbing....I don't know, I will always prefer a good sub. I am a big eastern culture enthusiast though. Part of why I like alot of anime is the insight we get into their culture and I find the japanese language beautiful, and the dialogue is so rich at times....and when the language is changed it loses some of that luster to me.

As it stands I will take it any way I can get it.

Well either way subs are being put on the site and let me tell you if you are trying to get Japanese Culture out of animes...specially animes brought over INTO america you are seriously mistaken on their culture. According to people I have talked to A LOT of americans do that and when they go to Japan they are absolutly laughed at...but behind their backs because the Japanese are really indirect about everything *unlike animes* You have to remember, animes represent to the Japanese culture something they are not..I mean you wouldn't want to watch a show thats like your average day life would you o.0

...subbed or dubbed....anime is rich with japanese culture. From an artists' perspective, anime and manga is its own art form, exclusive to the japanese. Also there are tons of recurring themes in anime. Some anime closely parallel reality, using REAL historical figures and events. I find myself looking things up all the time to see how historically sound certain things are or if they are completely fabricated. Little things like that are really interesting to me. Like the fact that they have a character named okita in the samurai x ova...That is a real person...he was a famous prodigy, heralded a genius, who was a master swordsman by 18 and a commander of a faction of the shinsengumi, later dying of TB in his very early twenties...

I don't think anime is in any way a depiction of how japanese people act day to day...I think you misunderstood me.

Dub or Sub

Postby srgtfrog » July 3rd, 2010, 1:21 am

It doesn't really matter to me which I watch unless the tone of voice for characters is just right 8 ) . Goku in the Sub is weird compared to the Dub
especialy since I started with Dubs. Besides it's funnier when I here Might Guys' voice in the Dub! Both have there pros and cons. :?

"It's the villain that makes the story, not the hero! For if we have no villain we have no hero! "

an instance where I say the dub ruins the anime is dragonball z. and the voice completely ruins goku's character. It makes him sound more father-like and all that. It really annoys me because he is still supposed to sound young and nieve? I honestly can not stand his dub voice. I have seen all of DB and most of DBZ, the uncut versions subbed. I have seen a few episodes of english dub and really, they ruin that anime. Sadly everyone saw it dubbed because they watched it growing up. I did not though, I couldn't stand the show when I saw it on TV growing up. Not to mention, the Japanese version doesnt sound like a big circle jerk and everyone just came....
