i dunno, i think the plot far surpasses it, well maybe the intensity does. The first series even in it's most hardcore seemed a bit childish, but the second seems all grown up and bashes faces into the wall with the emotion.

Emotion in Naruto? i guess. kinda the same one slammed into your face constantly. The characters are "broken" as in they really don't follow what they should be doing as set up in previous episodes. At least not all the time. It has been a cycle of chase followed by tears for ages now which is boring as $!$!.

The beginning of the series, up until kakashi started training him was boring, they could have done a lot with the fights up and above the manga but didnt. i recall a lot of half assed animated scenes in the beginning of it. The story is alright though. However, I was expecting Naruto to be able to control the Kyubi more by now, which is pretty disapointing.

Over all I give it a 7 or an 8. Above the average anime but way over hyped by kids, A lot like Dragonball was for my generation, Naruto is for this generation.

One Piece on the other hand is about a billion times better than Naruto. Well, Maybe not a billion but it is a lot better. Though they have really fucked up the War. It would have been better for them to combine chapters into episodes of the anime rather than the drawn out odd pauses the anime put into it. It really slowed the action and kinda made it suck. And it is going to continue to suck for about a year. 8 months at least.

Edit:
I did just watch the latest episode of Naruto, it was pretty good.

um...naruto could barely control one tail when the first series ended...he can keep concious control of himself up to three tails now.
The beginning is boring? sasori v. Chiyo+Sakura? Deidara v. Gaara? Naruto v. Orochimaru? and I don't see why you're questioning there being emotion in Naruto. If anything, One Piece is a far simpler anime (animation, music, and plot). I personally think the fights in Naruto are better.

Yes it was boring. I will say when they take the time to actually animate a fight, yes it is better in Naruto, Thing is they only some times add in more movement than what the manga had. This at least was true for a large part of the up until the end of orachimaru fight. It has been some time since I watched it, and I was left with a bitter taste afterwards so perhaps that skews my view of it but still, they didnt do much more with it than the manga, which was good but also made it boring. One piece may have a more simple plot, but it has about 50 more plots going on within the whole of the show which keeps things fresh at least. All I have heard from naruto was WAHHHH WAHHH SASUKE WAHHHH COME BACK!!!!! it was old from the beginning because he is an idiot who can't see past his nose. I mean, there are basically 3 plots in Naruto.

Naruto looking to bring sasuke back for whatever reason

Sasuke on some damn fool idealistic crusade because well.. he is a terrible character. He has no idea about anything that actually goes on.

and then the whole akatsuki capturing the tailed demons whihc is about at its end.

Danzou doesnt count because so far we only know that he is doing everything in his power to "protect" the villiage, which every self respecting ninja does. there is obviously more there but as of yet, in the anime, we do not know so i cannot count that.

Then

Don't get me started on Sakura, her character was ruined in shippuden

Thing is ALL of this has been going on for, in real life years, what? 4 years now? 5? with very little change to the over all goal.

So yes, the anime is boring.
Do I enjoy watching it? yes for the good bits of action and to finish the story

~~

Contrast One Piece, there have been hundreds of characters each with their own story and dozens of story arcs that begin and end througthout followed by 3 or 6 larger story plots to keep everything tied together and moving forward. Sure it gets repeditive some times but still, it manages to keep itself fresh. the only plot that has been from episode one was luffy on his way to become a great pirate, go on adventures, meet shanks and become pirate king. The onlything that is thrown in your face a lot is him going to be pirate king but it isnt every single episode for years on end with crybaby characters. When One Piece shows emotions that move you, it does a far better job than Naruto.

I do fear that now in the "new world" it is mainly going to recap on all the old ideas but now they are more powerful, this is what is happening at fishman island, but its hard telling, Ode is quite good at surprising people with thoughts they never thought of.

~~

Bottom line is, Naruto, yes it is good and worth a watch but after awhile it runs into the issues dragon ball had. Its the same thing over and over, it gets boring

One Piece has a far better story going for it and will continue on long after Naruto has finished. (it seems to be that way anyhow)

The only things you could argue about here are my last lines about one piece having a better story and it will be a longer series. Everything else, while it is my opinion sure, it is the truth. I would wager people who can look at things objectively and unbiastly would agree with me 9 times out of 10.

~~

To keep on track with the thread and make it clear, yes I do like naruto, I am a little disapointed I had stopped watching it but also glad, because i needed a break from its constant badgering about sasuke to be able to apprecitate its good qualities again.

you're not current in the naruto manga. I can tell that much. I disagree with almost everything you said, except for your comments on Sasuke.
Sasuke has done almost literally nothing the past 30 chapters.

considering this is an Anime site and Farf was talking about Anime as far as I could tell, it doesn't matter if I am current with the Manga.

You can feel free to disagree all you want, thing is, you would be wrong. You must keep in mind that 90% of the statements were contrasting between One Piece and Naruto. One Piece still has tons of stuff in the bag where in Naruto the cat is out. (speaking story wise of plots introduced in the first episodes)

Alright, agree to disagree. I love both series, but still prefer Naruto. Also, since the Naruto anime is based directly off the Naruto manga, the manga is extremely relevant.

Not beyond the anime series though, At least in an anime discussion.

I mean, I know what you are saying but when you break it down, you really cant look past it. but that is neither here nor there.

I am honestly back and forth with which I prefer. I like the animation style of Naruto better most of the time but occasionally I really like what they do with the one piece battles.

I prefer the story of one piece (no completely shitty characters aside from buggy, Naruto has too many and in the second series they have all become minor characters which kind of bugs me. I mean like they are more minor than they used to be)

I guess over all there is just too much annoying stuff in Naruto and the characters are broken from how they should be based off of past actions and what they have said. that sort of thing just... annoys me

I thoughht naruto had great character developement, manga aside cause I don't read that shit, to me the story has been unfolding in a way i never would have thought. I can't say anything about one piece cause I know very little about it, it just doesn't interest me. First impression one piece was just lame, but that is only a bias view as I know keke is a hard core anime junkie and I respect his opinion in that matter, however it's just not for me. Manga aside, I thought shippuden took a more serious turn than the first. Fight scene's of course got more intense as all the characters grew up and their skill levels increased, I have no idea what will come of sakura, sasuke, or naruto. Crazy !$! love triangle that has just had a major realization on sakura's part. It's that type of thing that keeps me interested. Was drunk when I started this thread as usual, but seemed to turn into a serious topic, or maybe the seriousness only starts when you two start debating :P.

It isnt that serious. And I am not really a "hard core anime junkie" at least, not much these days. Just about a few anime lol.

I think the main reason Naurto is so hyped is because its one of the only Ninja based animes out, I have looked all over for them and only found a very few that were actually good and there were very few to start with.

thats because pirates > ninjas

not refering to anime, just in general. ninjas have no lives, they are always hiding and shit. Pirates on the other hand drink shit loads of rum and have a grand ol time. so, pirates > ninjas

though with that said, there aren't many anime about pirates... hmm
