Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z and Outlaw Star. :P Like loads of other people, I didn't know they were called anime back then!

In fact, I think I might watch a bit of Outlaw Star now!

The fact that these 3 are the options for the poll is quite silly haha. I also believe Yu Gi Oh is of a different league to Naruto and Bleach. Naruto and Bleach are classed as 2 of the 3 Shoujin (or something, can't remember, the third is One Piece) and Yu Gi Oh was famous in the west years before (yes?) Naruto and Bleach. It was also a lot more popular among young kids than Naruto and Bleach.

Hmm.

not too surprising to me. i mean, there are kids on here now who probably havent seen anime from before 2004. yes theres better anime after this but if they only recently found AC then they might not know that much about anime yet. which would explain only these three options. but then again ive basically only been watching anime since late 2004 but then again im also about 10 years older than the kids im talking about

Yeah, well considering (I think) the mass increase in young anime fans has been due to Naruto and Bleach explains those options. But they're still wrong! Haha, and Yu Gi Oh should not fit in with them.

I suppose anime will become completely normal in the West soon, or like it is in Japan, when more and more Naruto/Bleach type series' come out.

Hmm...for me it would have to be when Sailor Moon first came out back in the early to mid-90's. After the show went off the air. I didn't watch anime for many years till I discovered InuYasha and the rest is history. InuYasha also made me start collecting anime DVD's and figurines and collectibles.

KeKe and Steve you guys are soooo right. I almost can't stand to watching AdultSwim (Cartoon Network) anymore. When I first discovered it, I believe back in 2002-ish when it was all anime and InuYasha was huge. Now they've replaced most anime shows to ghetto ridiculous shows like Robot Chicken (though there are some hilarious scenes), Tom Goes to the Mayor, etc. type of shows. Before it used to be a lot of anime shows now your lucky if you get 2 anime shows...lol!!!

oh come on

Postby jreece » June 4th, 2008, 9:09 pm

Apparently I'm old compared to people in here... I got into anime from dragonball z and old cartoon network stuff that was on right after school. Plus some of the older movies like Akira also helped push me to become a hopeless anime lover

LOL, jreece. I don't about being old, but I started likely anime when Sailor Moon came out in the States. After than went off the air I didn't watch anime for the longest time. Then in 2000, sometime around there I discovered Inuyasha and loved anime ever since. I'm going to admit, I'm 27. LOL!!!

A mix between Speed Racer and Pokemon when I was around 5-6. Didn't know what anime was then. But then Sailor Moon aired, the Dragon Ball Z, Digimon, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, then Outlaw Star(it was on Toonami before Adult swim even existed) I watched and loved all thems and had no clue they were called anime. I remember others but these were the earliest. So except for the name issue, me and anime have a history together.

My first manga was Rave Master. I still read it (it's still going, almost 30 volumes) I read so many series now it's not funny. I read only Naruto on the internets, I buy the rest.
